Exactly a week ago I started asking Allen to take a deep breath when he was feeling overwhelmed. It happened at music, he was dysregulated and getting agressive, so I took him outside where it was quiet(er) and had him take some deep breaths. I almost hyperventilated dramatizing it for him but he calmed down and we had a great class :)
Fast forward to yesterday. Stressful day. I was watching my friend's son and he and Allen just had one conflict after another. I took them outside to run around and then things were great. Evening came, had dinner, he didn't want to go to bed even though he really needed to, and he just wanted to nurse which is really painful for me right now. I just had to cry, to get all this overwhelmed feeling out. So I am sitting there with tears pouring out, and he says, "Mama, are you sad? I'll give you a kiss, ok?" Then he says, "Mama you're my best friend! I love you!" Such a sweet boy! I hug him and tell him I love him too and just keep crying. LOL So he says, "Mama, take a deeeeeep breath! Like this!" and he mimicks my dramatization of taking a deep breath. DH and I just lost it, it was SO funny. So see, he is listening!
